LIME KILNS MUSEUM

The well-preserved lime kilns, which can be found in a natural environment and have been restored according to the original quarry, constitute the cornerstone of our project and make it unique.

The installations could be considered a fusion of old craft exploitation and industrial facilities. Fortunately we have revived the memory of these kilns by interviewing people who worked at this kind of installations during the last period of exploitation.

Today the kilns are in very good conditions, possibly because they are far from the city centre and also thanks to the fact that they were used for other purposes, such as livestock shelters. However, the old warehouses and silos have disappeared, and there is only an area left, which we have restored and we will keep as a museum.

In this area, which will also be the reception, we will greet visitors and keep a collection of tools, pictures and documents about the meaning of these kilns for the region. Therefore, this area will become a reference point about the technology used in the past for lime exploitation and industry.

The Lime Kilns Museum will organise pre-arranged tours both for schools and any individual person who is interested in visiting the facilities.
